I spent many years serving on the admissions committee for a selective, independent high school.  I read hundreds of application files including student essays.  Additionally, I taught writing to 8th graders for 15 years.  Through this combined experience, I have deep insight into what good middle school writing looks like.  I also know, first-hand, what high school admission committees typically see in their application pool and what they look for as they deliberate whether or not to accept students.   Most importantly, I understand how middle school students think and learn––and I know how to motivate and help them to do their best work.
